How to Describe Your Work So the Answer Is Worth Reading

This is the only part of contacting us that actually decides the quality of the reply. It takes a couple of extra sentences, and it removes several rounds of questions.

Most Inquiries Stall Because the Job Was Never Described

Almost every question we receive is answerable. What slows it down is that the message describes a trade rather than a job. "I run a repair shop" says nothing about the metal currently in your hand, so the first reply has to be a question, and the real conversation starts several messages later than it needed to.

A General Question Can Only Earn a General Answer

Skip the detail and you get the brochure reply — and you are no closer to knowing about your own work:

  • You hear "yes, it welds gold". Which tells you nothing about the piece on your bench.
  • The hard cases never surface. Thin, hollow and previously repaired items behave differently and go unmentioned.
  • Stones stay unassessed. Nobody asked about the setting, so nobody warned you about it.
  • The quote fits the wrong work. Power configuration gets chosen from a job we were never told about.

We Reason Backwards From Your Piece, Not From a Datasheet

We start at the joint and move outward: what it has to hold, what sits close enough to the work area to matter, and how often the job repeats. The machine configuration is the last thing discussed, because it is a consequence of your description rather than the opening move.

Four · Use this as your check

The Checklist That Turns a Question Into an Answer

Nothing here needs measuring. Answer what you know and say where you do not — a blank is information too.

  • Material and alloy. Gold, silver or platinum, plus the alloy or karat if you know it.
  • Thickness and structure. Thin, hollow, cast, solid stock, or already repaired once.
  • The joint form. What is joined to what, and where the join has to hold.
  • Distance from any stone. Whether stones sit near the work area, and what they are.
  • How much of it you do. Occasional repairs and a steady daily flow are different questions.
  • Who will operate it. An experienced bench jeweler and a first-time laser user need different guidance.
Five · When you cannot describe it

If Words Fail the Piece, Send the Piece Instead

Some jobs resist description — an unknown alloy, an unmarked stone, a repair somebody else already attempted. Do not spend a week writing it up. Let it be tested rather than argued about, and if the result says the M3 is not the right machine for that work, you will hear that too.

Questions People Ask Before Sending Their First Message

No, and we would rather you did not decide it in advance. The M3 comes in multiple power configurations, and which one suits you follows from the metals, the joints and the volume you described — not the other way round. Describe the work and the configuration reasoning comes back with the answer. What goes into a quote explains which factors move it.

Photographs get us most of the way, never all of it. Gem species, any treatment, the setting structure, the distance from the working area and the heat sensitivity of the stone all have to be assessed together, and we do not claim every gemstone and metal can be processed safely under the same conditions. Where the photos leave a question open, the honest next step is a sample rather than a guess.

Then we say so. The M3 does not replace every specialized machine for every application, and telling you that before you buy costs you nothing — being told afterwards costs you a machine that sits unused. Continuous production runs and anything outside the configurations the M3 is validated for are the usual cases where the answer is no.

Yes, and for awkward work it is the shorter route. Send the piece you are unsure about and see the result on your own metal instead of reading about someone else's. Tell us in the same message what the piece has to survive in normal wear, so the test reflects the job rather than a demonstration. How the welding test works
